Criteria Used for Evaluation

Advanced Features

We have already discussed many times in our buying guides that when we talk about features, we usually refer to those characteristics of the product that make it stand out as unique and a bit different compared to other similar ones which make the buyers select that particular product. However, when it comes to low spin drivers, we felt that we needed to add some more than just the usual ordinary features since more or less they are the same for all of the clubs of this kind.

So, besides the low lofts and the lower and a bit face-forward center of gravity, we looked at an amazing variety and combinations of the way they are made. Certainly, the most impressive is the winner of our list with the face design that boosts increased distance and speed, and that was not a person’s craftsman shift but an AI computer which was working on the principles of trial and errors to deliver the perfect combination. Then you could notice that some clubs feature CNC milled face, other feature face flexing design and many different technologies in between that help the golfers gain the expected result which is straighter, faster and longer shots.
What also got our attention when it comes to special features is the Cobra King’s smart grip that features Cobra Connect technology which offers golfers to track their performance and Taylor Made’s resin injection which delivers distance and speed control, as one of the most unique advanced technologies. And if you could notice, each of the companies offers something very specific in the ways these drivers were made so that each golfer knows what he/she should look for and what he/she gets.

Effectiveness

Even though loft adjustments are a matter of personal choices and when it comes to low or high spin there’s no right or wrong answer to the question which of them is better but which will help golfers become more efficient straight from the tee. Low spin has been considered effective in producing longer and straighter shots that allow the ball to travel a long distance. When it comes to the best low spin driver, what it must be taken into consideration is the availability of the club to feature adjustable hosel and weight and, in most of the cases, particularly if we talk about average golfers, larger sweet spot and greater forgiveness.

However, due to the fact that effectiveness is a factor that doesn’t depend only on objective, but also subjective elements, such as personal ability and skills, attitude and the individual approach, we took in consideration not only golfers’ opinion but experts testings too. That gave us a much more reliable representation of the effect that these drivers have, which can be seen attributed next to each driver with low spin rate.

Materials

As we have also pointed out on several occasions, materials are the direct contributors to the club’s effect, since they dictate the performance of the club. Different clubs feature different materials, but what we have most frequently come across when it comes to low spin golf drivers are the following: carbon, carbon-steel, titanium, kevlar when it comes to the crown and the sole, and most usually tungsten is used for weight tuning. When it comes to shafts, they feature many different technologies to provide them with certain characteristics, however, the most frequent materials are graphite and stainless steel, between which, the graphite is much more featured and more expensive.

Value

We decided to take this factor into account simply because most of these products have prices that are over the roof, making them a worthy investment, so as many golfers as the question, are they truly worth the price?

There isn’t a straightforward answer to that question simply because sometimes you don’t pay the value of the materials used in the products and the needs of the production process, but you pay the reputation and the popularity of the manufacturer. Put this aside, we looked for other markers so that we could have a proper conclusion such as the durability of the golf clubs, their effectiveness, the materials that are used and the ease of use.

Being guided by the saying that good value for the money isn’t the cheapest product in a range, but the product that offers the most of the quality and performance for the lower amount of money, we made the selection and appropriately scored the products.

Face Features
Extra strong speed needs a strong face design which will be able to endure the impact, which is what Flesh Face low spin golf driver does. It is made from 595C Super Aged Forged Titanium which has been tempered and welded on the head with a laser. Milled on the front and forged on the inside with the laser etched grooves help align the ball and deliver greater speed with a greater distance.

Club Head
To make the club head consistent to the demanding needs of the tour golfers and to provide increased speed, the Jailbreak Technology was utilized which features two internal bars which have the purpose to stabilize and stiffen the sole and the crown by adding increased load on the face to enhance the speed of the ball. The Triaxial Carbon Crown is much lighter which means that the weight is redistributed along with the head. This redistribution leads to raising the MOI which in turn leads to much greater forgiveness when it comes to off-center shots. The familiar adjustable 16-grams perimeter weighting on the low spin driver is back enabling golfers to promote various shots, from draws, fades to straighter flights.

Shafts
There are three shaft types that golfers can opt for. EvenFlow’s ‘even’ bend profile which is known to transfer the load of the shaft much smoothly and to release greater energy. Then Tensei AV Blue made from aluminum vapor coated fiber which adds stability in the butt section for mid-launch and mid-low spin. The third variety is Project X HZRDUS Smoke which features low spin and low launch profile designed for aggressive swingers with improved feel and better playability.

Cost and Value
One thing is for sure, Callaway did a great job with the club and brought maximized speed in the most unique way-by utilizing AI. However, the great investments need to pay off, so the price of this club is simply said, high.

Club Head
We’ll start with the crown which is definitely the largest that they have ever designed in addition to being the lightest which means that the extra weight is moved to the CG. The choice of materials is more than impressive, and that can be seen in the crown being made from carbon and lightweight polymer, while the sole is made from titanium and that helps to reduce the drag. The CG is low but movable from the front to the back which was achieved by designing a multi-material structure which contains 14 grams of tungsten. The PWR Ridges are strategically positioned so that they strengthen the aerodynamics of the club which provides greater energy return so that the speed and the distance are higher. And those yellow additions on the club? They increase aero efficiency and make the club look smarter.

Shafts
In order to complement the performance of the head, each driver loft (12.0, 10.5 and 9.0) matches with tour aftermarket shafts that have different weight and flex profiles. They are made from premium materials with lower torque and stiffer profiles so that the dispersion and the distance are much improved. What makes S9 Speedback one of the most revolutionized low spin drivers is the electronically enabled grips which work with Arccos App which monitor and record the golfer’s performance.

Cost and Value
S9 Speedback is a revolution of itself and it defied all the skeptics who thought that aerodynamic head and low CG was mission impossible. It lets golfers achieve high trajectory, speed, and distance by adjusting the loft which leads to managing the ball trajectory. The revolution in the design is accompanied by the use of Cobra Connect smart technology which allows golfers to track their performance. All in all, it is an extraordinary driver for low spin rate that comes for an equally high price, but as many golfers have said, it is well worth the money.

Face Features
The face this low spin driver has, is more than a revolution, and the Speed Injected Twist-Face Technology makes the face of the new drivers much more precise and speedy, while the resin injected controls the speed. What that means is the fact that they created the face delivering speed above the legal limitation and then created two tuning slots where they injected the resin to make sure that the limit is preserved. That is carried out by the proprietary algorithms that calculate the appropriate amount of resin needed for the face. The individual testing and the resin tuning optimized the COR across the face for maximum speed and distance. The Twisted Face Technology yields extra loft in the high toe and less loft lower in the heel for consistency in the spin in the mis-hits.

Head Club
The crown and the sole are enriched with 54% more carbon fiber compared with their previous model and that translates into 46g of weight goes low and deep and that process was named Inertia Generator by Taylor Made. The Hammerhead sole slot is much more flexible which preserves much more ball speed. The weight is adjustable and there the center of gravity is moved toward the heel to add more draw bias.

Shafts
Strangely enough, the stock shaft is 45.74 inches long which isn’t the size that golfers prefer since it helps neither with the speed nor with the accuracy, however, Taylor Made offers custom fitting without additional charges and you can get a shorter version.

Cost and Value
The testing made by many golf expert proved in various occasions that M6 offers in terms of true speed enhancement, and the results often prove to be more than satisfactory. It is a club that allows more than excellent performance and especially average golfers are bound to see advancement in the yardages and the speed. Regarding the price, it isn’t going to cost you cheap, but it is an investment that is going to last for a while.

It has been manufactured with a patented, unique heat-treatment process which makes the T9S+ face much thinner, while the hotter impact zone is precision milled so that it can raise the ball speed over the face for greater flexing and faster speed. The internal geometry of the head together with the forged face is responsible for the mighty sound and the feel.

Club Head
The striking feature as we said is the movable CG and 15% higher MOI compared to other competitor low spin drivers. The size of the head is 455cc and the 16g of movable weight helps the golfers dial in their preferred shot type. The extra thin dragonfly technology of the crown adds to its strength delivering more energy to the ball. Plus, the company has expanded the loft and lie options with the new aluminum/thermoplastic hosel that has eight settings and which can further adjust the flight of the ball.

Shaft
The proprietary option for G410 is the next generation of Alta CB counterbalanced shaft which is higher launching and lightweight designed with 8g counterweight in the grip which shifts the CG higher. This allows more head weight which increases the MOI and the energy transfer providing speed and forgiveness. Plus, you can choose from Ping Tour 65 and 75, Project X EvenFlow Black 75 and Mitsubishi Tensei CK Orange 60 for no additional charges.

The movable 16g tungsten weight slides perfectly on the back of the head allowing golfers to dial in shot bias without any impact on the forgiveness. It has a wonderful design that can compete with the most prominent design-wise names and it appeals to a wide range of golfers. All these attributes come with a price which on the higher rate for clubs of this quality.

The carbon crown removes the extra weighting from high above in the driver and at the same time dampens the vibration to effectuate into the most pleasant-to-hear sound at impact. Since this is a tour model, the size it has is much smaller compared to some more forgiving clubs, but that’s the blueprint of tour designs and the company tended to stick to it. When it comes to the hosel, it is adjustable and the Quick Tune System allows golfers to customize the loft and the weight so that they achieve the swing they want to.

Even though it isn’t very adjustable (just three lofts and shaft flexes in three separate heads), it allows golfers to dial spin down, allowing consistency in the performance and control over the club. So, if you are looking for simple design and affordable price, with a good distance and speed, this one is worth considering.

Face Features
There’s nothing much to be said about the face design except that it follows the extra light design and the choice of the advanced materials, making the head weight just 192 grams which leads to the maximum distance and greater speed. As we said that there are three lofts, the 9-degree loft has the weight forward which produces lower spin, while the 10.5 degree has the weight in the midsole and the 13-degree one has it towards the back of the heel.

Club Head
As this is probably the lightest low spin driver, we should take a look at the materials it was made from. The crown is about 30 grams lighter, made from carbon composite with kevlar layers which help reduce the vibrations, adding to the contemporary look that features its contemporaries. Plus, designed like that, it provides a very sharp and crisp sound accompanied by an incredible feel.

Shafts
Wilson D7 is all about simplicity which can be particularly seen in its lack of adjustability of the lofts. The only possibility it provides is the availability to opt from the three different drivers which are engineered with lots of 9, 10.5 and 13 degrees and different centers of gravity. When it comes to shafts, it has retained the simplicity too. As a matter of fact, there’s only one shaft availability, the UST Helium which is as lightweight as the rest of the club.

Cost and Value
Wilson Staff D7 is a driver that has been designed for mid to high handicappers, even though the sweet spot isn’t as large as you might expect from a club that addresses this category. What it comes as a surprise is a distance and the speed that it provides and the extreme light feel you get. So, if you are looking for a well-performing driver with a very solid performance and even better and affordable price tag, we gladly recommend Wilson D7.
